Apnea detection from photoplethysmography signal using dicrotic notch

چکیده
Abstract Photoplethysmography signal (PPG) provides information about the cardiovascular, respiratory, or nervous system activity. Recent studies proposed methods of apnea identification from PPG using amplitude baseline modulation, area under curve. We hypothesized that analysis dicrotic notch could improve sensitivity and specificity detection. applied four to detect records experimentally obtained 10 volunteers, where each volunteer simulated three apneic pauses. adopted Area Pulse wave parameters, we Dicrotic parameter. For methods, determined delay in detection The average detecting an pause was 6.1 s. Combining parameters with increased 73.8% 80.0%, although decreased 91.1% 85.6%. newly parameter showed its potential for automatic

FPGA Based Digital System for Detection of Dicrotic Notch in the Carotid Pulse Signal
Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in human beings. A survey shows every year about 900,000 peoples die due to heart diseases worldwide. Carotid pulse is a pressure signal recorded over the carotid artery as it passes near the surface of the body at the neck. An abnormal carotid pulse called the dicrotic pulse occurs when patients suffer from sepsis, hypovolemic shock, cardiac ...
متن کاملNovel Notch Detection Algorithm for Detection of Dicrotic Notch in PPG Signals
Photoplethysmography (PPG) is a non-invasive optical technique that measures relative blood volume changes in the blood vessels and is widely used for research and physiological studies. Dicrotic notch represent the closure of the aortic semi-lunar valve and subsequent receding blood flow when ventricles relax. Their location is used to calculate systolic time intervals and monitor cardiac func...
متن کاملThe dicrotic notch analyzed by a numerical model
Divergent concepts on the origin of the dicrotic notch are widespread in medical literature and education. Since most medical textbooks explain the origin of the dicrotic notch as caused by the aortic valve closure itself, this is commonly transmitted in medical physiology courses. We present clinical data and numerical simulations to demonstrate that reflected pressure waves could participate ...
متن کاملDetection of decreases in the amplitude fluctuation of pulse photoplethysmography signal as indication of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome in children
In this paper, a methodology for using pulse photoplethysmography (PPG) signal to automatically detect sleep apnea is proposed. The hypothesis is that decreases in the amplitude fluctuations of PPG (DAP), are originated by discharges of the sympathetic branch of autonomic nervous system, related to arousals caused by apnea. To test this hypothesis, an automatic system to detect DAP events is pr...
متن کاملAutomatic Detection of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Using Speech Signal Analysis
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep disorder associated with several anatomical abnormalities of the upper airway. Our hypothesis is that it is possible to distinguish between OSA and non-OSA subjects by analyzing particular speech signal properties using an automatic computerized system. The database for this research was constructed from 90 male subjects who were recorded reading a one-m...
